How do you fit a felt backed carpet in detail?

I know you would use adhesive spray or glue instead of gripper but it is the fine technique details of laying, stapling, stretching, cutting etc in order to lay correctly without bumps etc i am looking to find out about. I am not using underlay on a wooden floor and the room is rectangle in shape with a chimney brest.
